When I began my project for the RHS botanical show I became very interested in botany. Once you start looking at plants, with botany in mind, you just want to know more.
I started to teach basic botany for botanical artists soon after my RHS gold medal award. It became clear to me that botanical artists needed to know some botany in order to understand the plants they were painting. My workshops became a real eye-opener to all.
Later, whilst in the process of making course notes, I was thinking about writing a basic botany book. The subject matter was becoming huge so I decided to focus on floral botany and dissection to start with. From this came the book you hold in your hands today. This tutorial book will teach you about flower botany and will give you an understanding of how to dissect and draw flowers.
I hope you find the read enjoyable and do please pass your knowledge on to your students and other botanical artists.
